Walk into your destiny

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good afternoon family and friends,

Today marks the last day of 2009.  When the clock strikes midnight it will officially be 2010 and I want to challenge each and every one of you to do one thing: Leave the baggage of 09-behind.

Thought for the day: Walk into your destiny-It’s time!

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (New King James Version)

Everything Has Its Time

1 To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven:

Romans 8:28 (New King James Version)

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

2009 is coming to an end and you are wondering why somethings didn’t work out the way you wanted them to.  You are wondering why you are not married yet, why you do not live in that house that you wanted, why you do not have the job that you wanted, why you are not serving in the ministry that you wanted, why your goals have not been accomplished, why you have not discovered your purpose and the list goes on.  We’ll do not be discouraged because everything has its time.  Gods timing is not our timing and just because it did not happen this year does not mean it can not happen next year.

Some of you are so discouraged that you have decided that what you were waiting for was not for you.  You have decided that maybe this was not your destiny, but I am here to encourage you- DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED-Your season is coming.  God has a specific time for your purpose to be manifested.  So instead of sitting with your head held down begin walking in your destiny.  God is about to move in 2010 and you can’t move if you are standing still.  God is about to elevate some people to the next level, but you will not be able to be lifted higher if you are carrying the troubles and disappointments of 2009 with you.

You have to stand on Gods Word and know that ALL things not somethings, but ALL things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

You have heard Gods voice, you know that you have been called, you love the Lord, so walk into your destiny.  2009 may have been your positioning year.  God may have had to take you through somethings before He could allow your goals, dreams, desires, and ambitions to come to pass.  Do not be discourage, trust in the Lord and WALK into your destiny.

In Gods appointed time your purpose will be fulfilled.  Leave the troubles of 2009 behind and carry with you only the lessons that you have learned.

I pray that you all have a Happy New Year and I look forward to seeing wear God leads you.

*Food for thought:  In order to take a step you must first put one foot in front of the other.  Will you take a step towards your destiny?

Have a blessed day in Jesus name!

Goodbye 2009

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning family and friends,

As 2009 comes to an end I want you to take time reflecting on all that this year had to offer.  For some this year was a trying year-your faith was truly tested, for others this was a growing year-your relationship with Christ elevated, for some this was a releasing year-you had to let go of some people and habits, for others it was a renewing year-you renewed and revived broken relationships and the list goes on.  No matter what 2009 has been to you, please do not overlook the blessings that God has bestowed upon your life.  Sometimes we focus on the bad things so much that we miss our opportunity to thank God for His blessings.  With every challenge that life presented to you there was a bigger lesson that God wanted you to learn and through every lesson there was another blessing.

The following poem is inspired by an array of people who have experienced somethings in 2009.  I pray that it blesses you the way it blessed me when God placed it on my heart.

Goodbye 2009

by: Nicole “Sunshine” Ellis

This year was not like I expected

Full of challenges, heartache and pain

News bulletins referencing a recession

Somehow my life would never be the same

I allowed people to speak negativity and complaints into my life

When problems arose I gave up and did not even put up a fight

Stress crept into my heart

Worry entrapped my mind with fear

Depression kept me in bondage with defeat

The way 2009 appeared there was no way I could compete

Stopped going to church

Isolated myself from friends

If you saw what I was going through

You would agree there was no way that I could win

But God knew just what I needed

He sent encouragement when I wanted to give up on myself

He sent healing when the pressure of the world tainted my health

He sent peace when my mind became restless

And put my heart at ease

I spent too much time complaining and whining this year

When I should have been kneeling down on my knees

There is no looking back 2009 is almost over

I will reflect on this years lessons

Now I will be ready for life’s “Do-overs”

I’m stomping into 2010 with an attitude of gratitude

A heart of forgiving

A tongue laced with grace

A mind focused on a vision

Feet whose steps are ordered by God

Hands that are anointed with the power to carry out ministry

When I linked up with my Savior we created perfect chemistry

The world looked at me and said I would not survive

As I straighten out my collar

I’ll just say, “GOODBYE 2009”

I pray that you all remember that God is always in control.  Do not operate like the world with your head hung down in defeat.  Do not participate in the bickering contest that they spear head, you do not want to be a champion of that game.  Change your focus and praise God more, speak life over your situations, pray more, laugh more, love more, forgive more, and share more.  Positivity is contagious and I dare you to march into 2010 with a new attitude.  I double dog dare you to say Goodbye to 2009 tomorrow.  Leave the past in the past.  Do not look back.  Leave hatred, envy, bitterness, jealousy, procrastination, depression, stress, worry, fear, and malice in 2009.  Do not bring that nonsense in 2010.  God has called you to an empowered place of praise and I declare the devil a liar today and everything that hindered you in 2009 will not follow you into 2010.  Say Goodbye, say goodbye to 2009!

Have a blessed day in Jesus name!

2 ears for a reason…

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning family and friends,

I pray that everyone had a blessed Christmas.  I truly enjoy family and this time of year reminds me that we should not wait until a holiday to connect or reconnect with family.  Stay close with the ones you love all through the year.  Family and friends are a gift from God cherish the presents that you have 365 days of the year.

Thought for the day: 2 ears for a reason

Mark 7:16 (New King James Version)

16 If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear!”

When someone comes to you and ask to talk to you do you:

  1. Sit silently anticipating your chance to respond
  2. Listen partially giving an occasional head nod to indicate that you are listening or
  3. Listen attentively taking in everything that they are sharing

A problem with ALL believers (yes I said ALL)  is sometimes we talk more when we should be listening.  I know you may not think its you, but I’ll be honest and say “I’m guilty as charged”.

Walk with me for a minute, when you pray to God do you ask Him for anything?  How much of your prayer life is devoted to just sitting and listening to God?  How much of your devotional life is devoted to sitting and hearing the Word of God rather than just reading the Word? If we are honest with ourselves we spend more time talking and telling God what we want and what we need then listening and hearing from Him.

As I was singing “Head, shoulders, knees, and toes” to my son I approached the part of the song that says, “Two eyes, Two ears, One mouth, one nose…head shoulders knees and toes”.  In the midst of that song God gave me an epiphany-YOU SHOULD LISTEN MORE THAN YOU SPEAK.  When He designed the human anatomy He designed it with purpose.  He gave us two ears for a reason.  He gave us ears so that we would hear.  He gave us two ears because we should listen twice as much as we speak.

God has placed someone in your life who is troubled and somehow you manage to put your “foot” in your mouth each time.  How?  Because you believe God sent them your way so that you could solve their problem, but in essence He called you to listen.  How many times have you truly just sat and listened?  Listened to the instructions and the Will of God, listen to the needs and desires of your brothers and sisters, and listen to the desires of your own heart.

As believers it’s time for us to listen.  You have questions about your destiny-ask God then listen.  You have questions about your financial situation-tell God then listen.  You have questions about your love life-talk to God about it then listen.  You have questions about what church to go to-tell God then listen.  Many of us have questions that have already been answered, but we have missed it because we were too busy talking while God wanted us to listen.

When you go to God in prayer, remember that you have two ears for a reason.  When someone wants to share a testimony or talk to you about their problem, remember that you have two ears for a reason.  The answers that you are waiting for are there, God is just waiting on you to listen.

Now I pray that EVERYONE receives this well and remember to LISTEN!  God speaks through songs, through His Word, through music, through other people (even children) and we have to be prepared to LISTEN more!

Have a blessed day listening.

Merry Christmas

I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas!

God has been to good to us not to share His love with others.  Be sure to love like Christ loves, forgive like Christ forgives, and share like Christ.

I pray that you all enjoy this holiday season.  God bless!

Face Check

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning family and friends,

Happy Tuesday to you all!  I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas this Friday!  Remember Jesus is the reason for the season.  Be sure to spend time basking in His glory.

Thought for the day: Face Check

1 Chronicles 16:34  Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!  For His mercy endures forever.

Tis the Season to be jolly, but I must admit something is bothering me this morning.  Something has really crawled underneath my skin and rubbed me the wrong way.  What is it?  I am glad that you asked.  It’s the faces of some Christians.  Yes, the FACES!

Now, let me clarify before you receive this the wrong way.  There is an overwhelming amount of believers who are walking around with their faces turned upside down.  There is an astonishing number of believers who have accepted mediocrity in their life thus allowing hideous expressions of defeat, disguise, and disappointment to take control over their faces.

Why does this bother me so much?  Because you can not call yourself a child of God and insist on walking around looking like God has never done anything for you in your life.  There are people who are watching you closely.  Your co-workers, neighbors, family members, church members, strangers and even your enemies are watching to see your demeanor.  They are whispering “Sister or brother so and so said that they are a Christian, but they always look unhappy. I guess this Christian thing is no better than my life” What is your face saying today?  Maybe it’s time for a FACE CHECK!

When you profess a relationship with Christ you are showing the world that you are a representative of the MOST HIGH GOD!  We were created in His divine image, but some of us are making Christ look bad.  I refuse to believe that the God that I serve, the One who created the World, the One who made Man, the One who sent His Only Son to save sinners like you and me, the One who extends grace and mercy to us, has not done anything for you today!  What does your face say?  It may be time for a FACE CHECK!

Oh do not get me wrong we all go through difficult times and sometimes frown, sometimes cry, sometimes are full of worry and despair, but there is something about the goodness of God that turns a frown upside down.  There is something about the power of God that makes darkness turn to light.  There is something about His name that will make you do a Face Check!

Stop walking around with your head hung down and your lip poked out as if you are defeated.  It’s time for a check up from the neck up.  Stop walking around as if the God that you serve did not wake you up this morning and start you on your way.  You serve a RISEN God.  You are a member of a royal priesthood.  Do not allow your face to tell anyone otherwise.

Ask yourself, “What does my face say about my relationship with Christ?”  “Is my face giving God a good name or a bad name?”

I challenge you to take each moment doing a “FACE CHECK”. Matter a fact call some of your brothers and sisters to help you do “FACE CHECKS”. It is not an option to wear a defeated look on your face.  God is too good and His mercy endures forever so start looking like a representative of Christ and do your FACE CHECK everyday!

Food for thought:  Does your face make Christ look appealing?

Have a blessed day in Jesus name!  I wish you all a Merry Christmas!!!

God so loved the world

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning family and friends,

Happy Monday to you all.  I pray that everyone had a safe and blessed weekend.  If you live in an area that received a lot of snow, I pray that you take heed to the instructions and warnings from the news media and the law enforcement.  Do not try to go out if you do not have to.

Thought for the day: God so loved the World

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Christmas is almost here.  Your family is making their way into town or you are on your way out-of-town.  You look at your list:

  1. Christmas gifts for family-CHECK
  2. Groceries for Christmas dinner-CHECK
  3. Games to play on Christmas day-CHECK
  4. Family Christmas cards-CHECK
  5. A way to share the love of Christ with families members-UNCHECKED

Families are so generous during the holidays.  We take extra care in wrapping gifts and selecting gifts.  We pick out our special Christmas day outfit because we know that pictures will be taken.  We get excited about seeing the faces of grandparents, siblings, aunts, and uncles that we haven’t seen in a while.  We have so much to catch up on that it is easy to talk about our new jobs, new homes, new additions, and more.  Yet, sharing the love of Christ never comes up or appears difficult to come up.

Do you know if every one in your family is saved?  Before you answer that think about whether you know the answer because you think they are saved or because you  have actually asked them?  It’s a dangerous thing to assume that someone is saved and to claim that you love them, but never share with them the love of Jesus Christ.

So today I want to help you.  When you get around family and begin talking about everything under the sun take a moment to share your testimony.  Here is an example of a Christmas conversation:

Aunt: Hey niece, Merry Christmas.  It’s so good to see you.

Niece: It’s great to see you too.  Merry Christmas to you!

Aunt: So what’s new in your life?  It’s been a while since we talked.

Niece: Auntie, God has truly been blessing me.  During these tough economic times God has sustained me.

Aunt: That’s nice.

Niece: Auntie, excuse me for asking, but I wanted to know if you were saved?

Aunt: I go to church every now and again.  But I just don’t get this “GOD” stuff.

Niece: John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”  Auntie God loved us so much that He sent His Only Son to die for us.  That includes you.  (end of conversation)

Some of you may be thinking “Conversations do not happen like that in my family”.  But how bold are you for Christ that you will at least ask?  How much do you love your family that you would at least ask?

God gave us the gift of everlasting life and all we have to do is believe Him and receive Him.  What a wonderful gift to offer to your family.  Knowledge is power and believe it or not some people in your family have not truly received the knowledge of Christ.  John 3:16 is powerful scripture, will you choose to share it with those that you love?

Food for thought:  What if your family members break through relied on you?

Have a blessed day in Jesus name!  I wish you all a Merry Christmas!!!

RENEW

Sunshine’s

Word of the Day:

Renew

Happy Friday!

Isaiah 40:31 31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Today’s word is  RENEW!

A few definitions for the word renew are to restore, replenish, to revive, to reestablish, and to make new again.

When you wait on the Lord your strength will be renewed.  What are somethings that need to be renewed in your spiritual life today?  Is it time to restore a broken relationship?  Do you need to replenish the love that has been lost for your ministry?  Do you need to revive your involvement in church?  Do you need to reestablish your relationship with Christ?

Spend time thinking about what you need to renew in your spiritual life.

Whenever you see or hear the word RENEW ask yourself “Is it time to RENEW my committment to the Father?”

Have a blessed day and a safe weekend!

Time to Unwrap your gift

Sunshine’s Reflections

It’s Friday!!!  Thank you Lord for protecting and guiding us along the way.  Thank you for breath in our bodies.  Thank you for a sound mind.  Thank you Lord for your grace and mercy.

Thought for the Day: Time to Unwrap your gift

1 Corinthians 12:4-11

4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.

Many people possess some type of talent.  Something that they are really good at and it appears that they are a natural.  When you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior a transformation takes place.  God enhances your talent and He gives you a gift.  Some people may have one gift and others may have many.  The problem today is that too many believers are sitting on their gifts.  Too many believers have not unwrapped their gifts.

It’s like waking up on Christmas morning with presents under the tree and everyone just sits admiring the wrapping paper.  Everyone is “Ohhh and Ahhhh”, but no one rips open the wrapping paper.  Maybe I am talking to you, people can see the wrapping paper on your exterior but can’t quite tell what is on the inside because you refuse to open the gift for them.

You see someone’s deliverance rest in the revealing of your gift.  Someone’s healing rest in the manifestation of your gift.  Someone’s restoration rest in your gift.  Someone’s breakthrough is waiting on the use of your gift.  Someone’s understanding rest on your gift.  Someone’s interpretation rest on your gift.  Someone is waiting on you to open up your gift.  God did not bless you with a gift so that you could keep it hidden and all to yourself.  The Word says, that “…the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all…”  If you are not unwrapping your gift then who are you profiting?

It’s time to be useful towards the kingdom of God, stop sitting on the side line looking at everyone else work.  Stop holding your head down as if you are useless.  Stop complaining in your pew as if there is nothing for you to do and rip open your gift so that ministry can go forth.

*Food for thought:  How many people are you hindering by not unwrapping your gift?

I pray that you all take time to speak to God and find out what your gift is and operate in them.  I pray that if you know what your gift is that you stop admiring the wrapping paper and rip it open so that someone else can profit from it.
There  is work to be done in the kingdom, is that work being put on hold because of you?

Have a blessed day in Jesus name!

Don’t take CHRIST out of Christmas.

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning family and friends,

God has brought us safely to another Thursday.  I am truly blessed to be with you all one more time.  God is good and worthy of All the praise.

Thought for the day:  Don’t take CHRIST out of Christmas

Christ in CHRISTMAS

by: Nicole Ellis

Christmas is a special time of year

A time where families grow closer

It’s a time where love conquers fear

A season where you invite everyone over

There’s a sweet aroma that feels the air

It’s not the smell of chestnuts roasting

Rather the scent of compassion that lets me know that HE cares

There is a problem that takes place during this time of year

People begin worrying about how much money to spend

Instead of reflecting on the joy that should make them cheer

Christmas has become so commercialized

Children have become so desensitize

This is all a scheme to disguise

Disguise Christmas from what it is really about

When I think of the real meaning of Christmas

Everything within me begins to shout

For Unto us a Child is born

This is a gift that keeps on giving

If it had not been for Jesus Christ

None of us would be forgiven

For the greatest gift that was given to us

Was prepared for us around creation

After the fall of man

God sent His Son to offer us all salvation

Christmas is a special time of year

But without Christ it does not make sense

To remove Christ from Christmas

Is to deny the One who is Heaven Sent

So during this season hear my voice

You do not have to conform to the world

Remember you have a choice

Jesus Christ is the reason we celebrate today

Do not take Christ out of Christmas

Be sure to make CHRIST stay!

I pray that as you prepare for this Christmas season that you reflect on the true meaning of Christmas.  If more families spent time-sharing the love of Christ we would not become so overwhelmed at the thought of not having money to spend.  We would not become depressed or filled with anxiety.  We would appreciate that there is no gift on earth better than the birth of Christ.  Because of His birth, His life, His death, His burial, and His resurrection we have access to the gift of life.  Remember Jesus is the reason for the season.  Will you open that present up today?

*Food for thought: Stop searching for an expensive gift that will lose value after it’s purchased.  Chose a gift that never tarnishes or fades.  A gift that is truly priceless. God’s gift has been paid in full, have you opened it yet?
Have a blessed day in Jesus name!

Stop biting the hand….

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning family and friends,

Happy Tuesday to you all!  Here is a little assignment to start you on your way.  Think of a song that describes your praise.  Notice I did not say how you feel today, but that describes YOUR PRAISE!  Sometimes we can allow our feelings to rob God of His glory.  You have the song in mind.  Okay, great!  Now sing that song in your spirit and even out loud all day!  I’m feeling like “Incredible God, Incredible Praise” by: Youthful Praise.  That’s my Praise song on today.  In spite of how I feel this morning I WILL PRAISE THE LORD!

Thought for the Day: Stop biting the hand that feeds you

Matthew 6:25-26

25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

There is something that we all have in common, no matter if we are saved or un-saved or straddling the fence.  We all need to eat and drink in order to sustain life.  I’ve noticed as a believer that we often forget who provides for us.  I’ve observed people as they position themselves high on the proverbial pedestal as the supreme provider for their household.

Have you ever noticed the man who sticks his chest out because he has a great job that allows groceries to be bought?  Or maybe you noticed the woman who boast over her cooking that provided a way for the groceries to taste delicious.  You may have even notice the person who partakes of each meal without ever blessing or giving thanks for the food.  Sometimes we can get beside ourselves and begin “biting the hands that feed us”.

What do I mean I am glad that you ask.  Every time you neglect to give praise to the Father for what He has provided you with you are “biting His hand”.  When you boast in your own strength for the food and drinks that you give to your family you are “biting His hand”.  I want you to understand that without God you would not be able to provide anything for your family.

God is so infinite in His wisdom and in His design that He provides food for the birds in an effortless manner.  In the same manner He provides for you.  God created you and designed for you to have the intellect to go to school.  He then purposed in your life to finish school and obtain a job.  He positioned you to be gainfully employed and for some gave you the know how to further your education in order to obtain a better paying job.  He then placed in your heart a desire to budget your money well so that when you went grocery shopping you would make the proper decisions.  For others He hand selected a mate for you to make those decisions as well as the skills to “fry” in the kitchen like it is no bodies business.  He gave you the creative skills to lay a spread on a table and the ability to feed a few all the way up to a multitude.  And He taught you a thing or two about how to stretch left overs into next week.    Can’t cook?  We’ll God is so wise that He even linked you up with some people who could do all of that and so much more.  God did not provide everyone with the skills, but He will always place someone in your life who possesses the skills. Let’s not forget He created the animals and the plants that we consume.  Why?  Because God did not intend for you to worry about how or when you were going to eat.

With a God like this how dare we walk around as if we had anything to do with what is provided for on our table.  We have to stop biting the hand that feeds us and start giving Him thanks.  We need to thank God for giving us the skills necessary to provide for our family.  We need to bless the meals that we partake in as well as the hands that prepare the meals.   We have to be mindful that if  it were not for God we would not have any of this.

How often do you thank God for all that He has provided for you or do you continue to bite the hand that feeds you?

I pray that you have a blessed day and remember to give God praise in everything that you do.

Mrs. Nicole “Sunshine” Ellis
