Decrease long enough

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning!  Happy Thursday to you all!  What a mighty God we serve.  I don’t know about you, but when I think about how Awesome God is my skin begins to tingle.  There is something about who He is that makes me rejoice!

TFTD: Decrease long enough

John 3:30 (New King James Version)

30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

John 3:30 (New International Version)

30He must become greater; I must become less.

Too many times as people we want to be in the spot light.  Some of us do not even care what the task may entail as long as we get credit or can be center stage.  Many of us miss out on opportunities to really minister to others because we begin moving God beneath us so that we can be elevated.

I know you may be thinking “OH NOT ME”, but do not be in a hurry to rule yourself out.  This message may be for you.  This message may be for your neighbor.  This message may be for your brother or sister in Christ.

Some of us block ministry from going forth because we do not decrease long enough to allow the Holy Spirit to take over.  We often go to God in prayer but sometimes our need to be in the spotlight overshadows His voice.

Ask yourself, “what are my motives for being the head of this project at work”, “what are my motives for joining those ministries at church”, what are my motives for joining these committees“?

Are you earnestly seeking God for the lifestyle changes that you are about to embark upon?  Are you seeking His approval, His guidance, and His wisdom before you do things?  Or are you jumping from project to project, ministry to ministry, committee to committee, relationship to relationship all in hopes of getting recognized?

I am here to encourage someone who God wants to use, but you must decrease.  You must become less and allow God to become greater.  You must allow His purpose and His vision to be elevated higher than you.  When you decrease long enough the desires of the Lord become your desires.  His purpose becomes your purpose.  Your motives for joining things will not be self-centered but God centered.  You will not seek public accolades but your desire will be that God gets the glory.

Food for thought:  God will not compete with you.  Move out of His way so that He can use you effectively.  Ministry can take place any place and any time, but you must first decrease!

Have a blessed day!
