Don’t limit God

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good afternoon!  Happy Tuesday.  I pray that everyone had a blessed and safe Memorial holiday weekend.  I had a blessed weekend and I truly enjoyed all that God allowed me to encounter.

TFTD: Don’t Limit God

Genesis 17:1 (New King James Version)

1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.

Philippians 4:13 (New King James Version)

13 I can do all things through Christ[a] who strengthens me.

I must admit there have been times in my spiritual walk that I have limited God.  Yes, me.  I didn’t always do this intentionally, but subconsciously I would begin packing God and all of His mite into a box.  I would limit Him and not even realize that I was limiting Him.

I would go to God with a prayer request and step out on faith that He would see it through.  Now when things in the natural didn’t work out according to plan, I would assume they weren’t going to work at all and accept that things will be changed or not work out as I had thought.  But how many people know that God is able to do exceedingly and above all things that we ever hope for or ask for?

The first way I limit God is by thinking that in order for a blessing to manifest that He had to operate the way I think things should be done.  I sometimes forget that my thinking is limited and His is not.  I then forget how powerful God really is.  The scripture says, He is ALMIGHTY GOD.  There are no limits on what God can and will do in your life.  Then I sometimes forget that since God is so great and His Son lives inside of me that gives me the ability to do ALL things.

How many people are guilty of limiting God?  We’ll don’t fret, God is not finished with you yet.  Remind yourself daily of who God is.  When you spend time studying God’s word, you can be confident that God is able to do all things.  Acknowledge that you don’t have everything under control and that God is always in control.  Stop limiting God to what you can see in the natural and trust that He can move mountains in the supernatural.  Step out on faith and know that God is able to blow your mind.

I know it looks like you won’t get that job or get accepted to that school, but I dare you to stop limiting God.  I know it looks like you don’t qualify for the car or new home, but I double dog dare you to stop limiting God.  I know it looks like your money is gone before the month has ended, but I triple dog dare you to stop limiting God.  When you take God out the box, He will expand your faith and take you to new heights.

Stop limiting God and watch Him do a new thing in your life.

God bless.

Random Acts of Kindness

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good Afternoon!  Happy Thursday.  I pray that you are having a wonderful day in the Lord.

TFTD: Random Acts of Kindness

Ephesians 4:32 (New King James Version)

32 And be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

When was the last time you shared a random act of kindness with someone?  God has called us to be kind to one another, tender-hearted, and forgiving.  It’s easy to be kind to people that we know, but when was the last time you were kind to people that you didn’t know? It’s easy to be tender-hearted to the people who are polite to us, but when was the last time you were tender-hearted to someone who was mean to you?  It’s easy to forgive those who never offended us because there is no reason to offer forgiveness, but when was the last time you forgave someone who bruised your heart or stomped on your hopes and dreams?

I dare you to extend love to others by being kind.  I challenge you all to demonstrate a random act of kindness to  a total stranger.  You see that same grocery store clerk every day and never took the time to ask their name.  Next time thank them on being so friendly.  You see the same single mother diligently carrying her kids from school to practice.  Next time you see her offer to put gas in her car.

A random act of kindness can go along way.  Write a note and leave it on someone’s desk.  Hand a stranger a gift card to eat and tell them God loves them.  When we are kind to others, God is pleased.  When we are kind to others, people get a glimpse of the love of Christ towards them.

I know this may make you feel uncomfortable, but I dare you to step outside of your comfort zone and be kind to someone.

Have a blessed day.

Change your perspective

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good afternoon.  You have successfully made it to “Hump day”.  The week is almost over.

TFTD: Change your perspective

Psalm 139:14 (New King James Version)

14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;[a] Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

Have you ever had to deal with a difficult person?  Someone who is always complaining, negativity is their middle name, they are never satisfied and it seems like they love to lie.  This type of person is so hard to deal with on a daily basis.  Have you ever asked God to remove that person from your presence?  I’ll be honest and say I have.  I have prayed for God to keep me from dealing with some people because they are so difficult and God said, “NO!”

Instead of moving me, God showed me that I needed to change my perspective.  Instead of seeing the bad in people, He wants me to see the good in them.  Even if I can’t see the good in them in the present state, I am to see their potential to do good.  I would be lying if I didn’t say that THIS IS A CHALLENGING TASK, BUT It is POSSIBLE ONLY WITH GOD!  I had to change my perspective.

First, God reminded me of who I was before I accepted Him.  He then reminded me of who I am in Him.  I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  And guess what?  So are His children.  I have to change my perspective and begin looking at God’s children the way He sees them.

Our point of view is often tainted when we look at ourselves and  others.  We often see the worst in people when they have offended us.  Now is the time to change your perspective.

When you get free time, check out this song listed below and read the lyrics.

Lyrics to I am what you see

By: Bishop Paul Morton

VERSE
HELP ME TO SEE ME
THE WAY YOU SEE ME
SOMETIMES I SEE PAIN LORD
WHEN YOU SEE VICTORY
I SEE WHERE I AM LORD
YOU SEE WHERE I SHALL BE
OPEN MY EYES, HELP ME BELIEVE, I AM WHAT YOU SEE

CHORUS
YOU SEE ME VICTORIOUS
YOU SEE ME FAITHFUL
YOU SEE ME BELIEVING
THAT YOU ARE ABLE
YOU SEE ME REJOICING
THAT I HAVE SURVIVED
OPEN MY EYES, HELP ME BELIEVE, I AM WHAT YOU SEE

This song should become our prayer for ourselves and how we see other people.  Ask the Lord to help you to see others the way that He sees them.  God sees the very best in us and we need to start seeing the best in others.

Will you change your perspective?

Have a blessed day!

Word of the day: Humble

Sunshine’s Word of the Day

Good morning!  Happy Tuesday to you all!  I pray that you all had a wonderful weekend.  It’s a new day!  Leave the troubles from yesterday behind you and focus on the moments of today.  Declare that you will have a blessed day by dispersing positive energy to everyone that you meet.  Even if people give you negative energy, push to give off positive energy.

Today’s word is humble

The definition of humble is not proud, haughty, or arrogant.  It also means reflecting, expressing or offered in a spirit of deference or submission.

1 Peter 5:6 (New King James Version)

6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,

There are people who appear to be great at many things.  The world calls them a “natural”.  Some people have these gifts that seem like they were etched in their DNA.  They can do anything and when they do it seems effortless.  You also have people who demonstrate a level of excellence in their craft, whether it is singing, dancing, writing, public speaking, designing, leading or more.  They seem to be great at the things they do.

When you are good or even great at something it is important to remain humble.  Do not become arrogant or proud because this attitude could lead you to think that you are better than others.  This attitude can make you think that you did all of this on your own.  We have to rely on God in all that we do with an attitude of gratitude and reflection.  Remain humble in order to lead others to greatness.  People don’t like to follow arrogant or haughty people.

Sometimes God won’t elevate people who are great or a “natural” if their attitude is in the wrong place.  You may be angry that God elevated someone else on your job or even at your church over you.  Maybe God overlooked you because you are too proud.  You are quick to say, “I’m better than them, how did they get that position.”  Maybe He wanted to use the person who is “average” in man’s eye to show people how to become “great” in God’s eye by remaining humble.  Maybe you were passed by so that you can learn humility.

Ask yourself: “How can I become more humble?  Do I demonstrate humility or am I too boastful?”

The greatest example of being humble is Christ.  Spend time examining  His life and spend more time trying to imitate Him.  Remember we have to remain humble in all that we do.

Have a blessed day!

Are they sharpening or dulling you?

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good Morning!  Happy Friday folks.  I pray that your work and school week has gone well.  To everyone who is looking for employment or looking to enroll in school, continue to keep the faith and know that your season is coming.

Now it was my intention to post a blog yesterday, but all I received yesterday was the scripture.  It wasn’t until this morning while brushing my teeth did God see fit to give me the words to go along with the scripture.  I enjoy writing, however I don’t write on this blog just to write.  Everything I write is God inspired and I choose to wait on Him in all that I do.  So no apology for gaps in blogs this morning.

TFTD: Are they sharpening or dulling you?

Proverbs 27:17 (New King James Version)

17 As iron sharpens iron,
So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

Ask yourself, “what type of people do I allow to sit in my circle? Are the people around me sharpening or dulling my life?”  Sometimes we have to take serious inventory over who we surround ourselves with.  I’ve discovered that if you want to have a meaningful life you must surround yourself with people who are going to sharpen you and encourage you on to the next level.

The scripture tells us that iron sharpens irons and so does one friend to another.  We have to be careful who we call a friend.  You may think that person is your friend, but they are secretly dulling your walk, your spirit, and your life.  When a person is sharpening you they will encourage you in all of your endeavors and offer sincere advice.  They will not seek to dampen your dream instead they will be your biggest cheerleader.  When you are out of line they will find the words to help guide you to make better decisions.  They will sharpen you by leading by example.

What they will not do is put fuel to the fire of a situation that you are dealing, rather they will find ways to put that fire out and have you focus on the positive things in life.  Someone is dulling you if they keep you angry.  They are dulling you if they keep you living in fear.  They are dulling you if they join your pity party whenever life throws you a curve party.  They are really dulling you if they throw the pity party for you.  They are dulling you if they question all of your goals and dreams.  They are dulling you if they give you objections to moving forward instead of encouraging you to move forward.

Ask yourself “are my friends sharpening me or dulling me?”  Seek God for wisdom because it may be time to let some people go in order for Him to place the people around you that will sharpen you.  Be careful who you call friend, they may be secretly dulling the ambition out of your life.

Have a blessed day!

You are a champion

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good Afternoon!  Happy Tuesday to you all!  Thank you for following my blog and sharing it with others.  Remember Reflections of the Son is available for sale, $9.00 a copy.  Inspirational poetry by ME.  Thank you for supporting all that Christ is doing within my ministry.

TFTD: You are a Champion

Hebrews 12:1-2 (New King James Version)

1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Do you know that you are a champion?  Do you know that you were destined to not only run a race, but to finish.  I think this is a fact that we forget.

On Saturday, I attended a women’s prayer breakfast and heard this song called Champion by Darwin Hobbs.  I encourage you to listen to it when you get a chance.  God knew that at this appointed time I needed to hear this song.

There are times in our lives when we begin running a race only to become discourage by the naysayers, by the process, by the obstacles, by self-doubt and so much more.  We forget that we are a destined to finish this race.

We have to follow God’s word and run this Christian race with endurance.  God will equip you with everything that you need.  You have the stamina for the journey you just have to believe that God will carry you the distance.  When you begin getting discourage look at Christ as the supreme example of a CHAMPION and a finisher.  Christ endured the cross and came out a champion.  This is the assurance that we have that if we press on we will finish this race.

Here is a stanza from the song I mentioned above:

A champion lives within me
He’s given me authority
I’m bold, I’m strong
I’ve overcome by the blood
Of the Lamb

I want you to remember a champion lives in you.  Christ has given you the authority to be bold and strong and you can overcome ANY obstacle as long as you follow Christ.  I don’t know about you, but I am encouraged today. I am encouraged to know that I am a champion in Christ and since Christ lives within me than I have the same strength that He had to endure the cross within me.  I don’t know about you, but you should shout for crossing the finish line before you finish.

We are champions!  Run like one!

Have a blessed day!

Delayed Not Denied

Poetry Corner

DELAYED NOT DENIED

 By: Nicole Ellis

*Poem from Reflections of the Son

The morning starts with your prayer to the Lord

You speak to Him with expectations of greatness-

Greatness for your life and the lives of others

You walk with confidence, tithe and study each day,

Yet you wake up and do not see the pay off of your request that you’ve made

How long do you have to wait?

Did God ignore your request?

These are some of the conclusions that you’ve come to, at best

Is there something that you did wrong?

Have you been denied the desires and petitions of your heart?

Remember God knew everything about you before you could even start-

Start to question or doubt His hand in your life,

Start to put the wheels in motion so that you could make sure you live right

God knew all of your requests before they even entered into your mind

Consider that your answers are just delayed and not denied

He has to postpone some things in your life

You would not appreciate them now

You would misuse or even abuse them

Damage them or even lose them

He delays your answers and your blessings for His appointed time

He is waiting for you to rely on Him,

So stop thinking that you have been denied

Continue to rise with prayer on your lips

And study His word all the time

Walk with the confidence and great expectations,

And know that your prayers are just delayed and not denied.

There may come a time in your life where you sit back and think that God has forgotten you or maybe he hasn’t heard your prayers, but I am here to encourage you that Christ has heard your prayers and that some of your blessings are just delayed and not denied.  Keep waiting on the Lord.  Be of good cheer.  God knows the right season to bless you if you faint not!

Have a blessed day.

Word of the day: Forgive

Sunshine’s Word of the Day

Happy Wednesday!

Today’s word: Forgive

Matthew 6:14-15 (New King James Version)

14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses

Mark 11:25 (New King James Version)

25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.

Forgive means to give up resentment,  to cease to feel resentment against an offender or  to grant relief from payment.

As believers we must forgive.  There is no way that you can claim to love the Lord, but will not forgive those who have offended you.  You cannot love the Lord and refuse to forgive others or even ask for forgiveness.

As Christians we are famous for saying that we forgive someone, yet we hold onto the “feeling” of resentment.  We may cease the act of resenting someone, but we are still holding onto that feeling.  When you truly forgive you have to cease that feeling of resentment.  We say we have forgiven our offender, but as soon as they walk in the room our entire facial expression changes, our temperatures rises to 110.9, and we either start complaining about them reliving the entire event or we seek away of escape.

We’ll I thought you said you forgave them?  Surely, if you released the feeling of resentment you would be able to stay in the same room as that individual and remain the same.  Just nod your head if you know what I am talking about.

When you forgive you also grant the relief of payment.  Relief of payment can be monetary, physical, emotional, or spiritual.  Someone owes you money, but you tell them it’s okay and that you don’t need it back, yet you hold on to resentment for them not paying you back.  Or someone has offended you and you claim to forgive them, but you are anxiously awaiting them to pay for what they have done to you.  As believers we have to forgive.

Matthew 18:35 (NIV) says,   35 “This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.”

When we forgive, we must do it from our heart.  Lip service is not good enough to God.  You may be able to fool other believers, by walking around saying, I’ve forgiven you, but in your heart you are cursing them out.  God knows your heart.  He truly knows your heart and He cannot forgive you if you will not forgive others.  We have to be sincere when we ask for forgiveness.  When we forgive others, we position ourselves for Christ to forgive us, we allow ourselves to have peace and become free from the bondage of anger and bitterness, and we set an example of what Christ looks like to others.

Someone reading this is holding on to some anger and resentment right now, and I pray that God grants you a heart that would forgive.  Forgiveness has to be one of the hardest aspects of Christian living, but it’s possible and it’s necessary.  What if Christ refused to forgive us?  If Christ can forgive you of all of the mess you have done then surely you can learn to forgive others.  (I’m speaking to the choir on this one).

There are times when I say that I have forgiven someone, only to discover that I still hold on to some form of resentment.  It’s not healthy and it must go.  I pray that God opens your heart to forgive those who have trespassed against you.  Life is too short to be angry all of the time.  Let it go and sincerely forgive.  Remember Christ forgave you!

Have a blessed day!

Tribute to Mother’s

Poetry Corner

Good Morning.  It has been a busy weekend on my end and I pray that every mother and every mother figure had a blessed Mother’s Day.

I may be late for the world’s definition of Mother’s Day, but I’m right on time for my definition.  Mother’s Day is 365 days of the year.  365 days your mother cares for you, provides, nurtures, shows compassion, demonstrates understanding, carries the burdens of the family, and so much more.

Do not limit Mother’s Day to one day where you buy cards and take her out to dinner.  Instead of spending exorbitant amounts of money on a gift your mother may like and use for a little while, give her something that she can cherish.  Take time to tell your mother what she means to you everyday.  Take a stroll down memory lane, by looking at child hood videos and pictures.  Reminisce on old stories and funny phrases that your mother said or use to say.  Gifts are nice, but the ones that take thought and consideration will last a life time.

Surprise your mother next week, a month from now, and even a day from now with something listed above.  Show her that you are thinking of her always.  You only get one mother and some have been blessed with awesome mother figures.  Cherish them 365 days of the year.

Mother’s

By: Nicole Ellis

When God created mother’s He created a woman of strength

He filled her bosom with compassion

He saturated her arms with a warm embrace

He touched her lips so that when she speaks all you hear is grace

A mother carries the weight of the world on her shoulders

Yet somehow the countenance on her face is filled with joy

She wears a smile that can change the heart of even her enemies

She offers a love to all and the price of it is free

When God created mother’s He handled her with care

He knew she would be fragile

Yet made her strong enough for the many burdens she would have to bear

He gave her multi-tasking abilities to handle the demands of a busy life

He gave her a heart of peace and serenity

She saturates the earth with healing and rebukes living in strife

Mother’s are a gift that keep on giving

Mother’s are the life line to a generation

Mother’s are an extension of love that knows no bounds

Mother’s are like a precious gem that Jesus found

We love you all; grandmothers, mothers, aunts, sisters, and friends

Because of mothers like you, we can make it til the end.

Have a blessed day and remember to celebrate the mothers and mother figures in your life.
