Vacation

Hello everyone,

I’m taking a much needed vacation and I’ll resume the blog in a week. God bless you for your support and prayers.

Remember to keep God first in all you do. Always make time for God’s word. If you are empty then what can you offer others? Ask the Lord to fill your cup so that you can pour out encouragement to others.

Happy Tuesday!

Tired of Losing

By: Nicole Ellis

Every morning I rise up with negative thoughts in my mind

I lose a piece of my sanity

Every second I speak death instead of life

I lose a piece of my being

Every hour I doubt God

I lose a piece of my faith

Every second I complain

I lose opportunities to praise the Lord

Every day I give way to anger I lose a piece of me

I lose my joy, my hope, and my peace

All because of a five letter word that cripples the soul at the core

Every moment I let defeat, stress, bitterness, and fear enter in my day

I lose

I lose friends

I lose loved ones

I lose myself to a way of life that was not destined for me

Today, I decided I was tired of losing

I speak life to gain hope

I believe in the unseen to revive my faith

I’ll trust God and choose to walk upright

My life is worth living

From now on I’ll put up a fight

Because I’m tired

I’m tired of losing

Aren’t you tired of losing yourself to the negativity of the world?  Aren’t you tired of being bitter and angry?  Aren’t you tired of holding on to all of that unforgiveness?  Aren’t you tired of losing battles that you are supposed to win in Jesus name?

We have a choice; to live like Christ or to turn away from His instruction.  The closer you are to Him the better off you will be.  You will not lose with Christ, but when you turn away from Him you will lose a lot and even your life.  Turn to Christ.  Start loving more and hating less.  Start forgiving.  Start praising God more than you complain.  Start today!

Have a blessed day!

Prayer for our kids

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good Morning!  I pray that all is well in your neck of the woods.  This morning I would like to offer a prayer for our children.

Dear Lord,

First allow me a chance to say thank you for being a sovereign God.  Thank you for constantly extending your grace and mercy to my family and friends.  Lord, forgive us right now of all the sins that we have committed from the last time we came to repent.  Lord, forgive us for not repenting and getting our lives right with you.  Reveal to us the areas in our lives that are blemished, tarnished, and tainted so that we may get them right with you.  Lord help us to have a better relationship with you so that we can have a better relationship with others.  Today, I want to pray for the children.  Lord thank you for bringing them safely through another school year.  Thank you for covering all of the high school graduates and keeping them safe.  Lord watch over them as they transition into adulthood.  Watch over them as the decision-making is no longer in their parents hands, but it is now in their hands.  Help them to make wise decisions about who they call a friend.  Help them stand against peer pressure and allow them to be the influence on others to live godly lives.  Lord watch over all of the middle schoolers who are transitioning to high school.  Cover them from head to toe.  Allow them to be open to the advice and wisdom their parents will instill in them.  Show them how to love everyone and not to fall prey to becoming a bully.  Watch over the middle schoolers and elementary kids as they transition to higher grades.  Keep all of the children humble when they do well and eager to learn even in the summer time.  Protect them from gangs and malicious wounding.  Protect them inside of their homes and outside of their homes.  Open the door and their parents finances to have them in constructive safe environments this summer.  Allow the children to be saturated with activities in and around the church.  Protect them from idle activity.  Keep them busy learning and stimulating their mind.  Keep them focused on building a relationship with you this summer.  Keep the children covered even if their household is broken mentally, emotionally, or spiritually keep them covered, clothed, and in their right mind.  Lord, I offer this prayer because our children are a blessing and they are the future.  Every child walking this earth, I ask that you provide for them in a way that they have never experienced before.  Have your way in their lives Lord.  Use them as only you can.  Help the community to reach out to children who are less fortunate.  Help the world to embrace the children instead of harm them.  Lord protect our children this summer.  This I ask in your Son Jesus name, Amen!

Have a blessed day!

You can Trust God

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good afternoon!  Happy Tuesday to you all!

TFTD: You can Trust God

Psalm 9:10 (NKJV)

 10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

Trust is very valuable and unfortunately not easy to come by nowadays.  Your trust may have been compromised or diminished through bad experiences with untrustworthy people who have now led you to doubt the integrity of the future people you interact with.  People claim to lie to us to protect us from the truth.  But a lie never protects us from anything, it only causes things to become worst.

The definition of trust is to have reliance on the integrity, strength, ability, and surety of a person or thing.  When you trust someone you have a confident expectation of what they will and will not do.  People will let you down, but I want to let you know that you can trust God.

God is truth.  He can not tell a lie and therefore you can rely on Him to always tell you and reveal the truth to you.  God loves you and has your best interest at heart.  He will not lead you astray.  You can trust God’s love.  You can trust God’s grace and mercy.  You can trust God’s forgiveness.  Man will tell you they are sorry and never change.  God has no reason to apologize to you because He will never hurt you.

I know you have been hurt and doubt man, but you can trust God.  I know you have been lied to by your family members, people you thought would never lie to you, but you can trust God.  I know your expectations of people have been tainted because of their shaky walk, but you can trust God.  I know you doubt people because you doubt yourself, but you can trust God.  YOU CAN TRUST GOD WITH YOUR LIFE.  Put your trust in Him and He will not forsake you.

God sent His Only Son so that you can have life more abundantly.  Guess what, you can TRUST God.  He gave His very best so that you could be your best, you can TRUST God.  Love Him and Trust Him.  Lean to God to show you who to trust.

I pray that God heals all wounds and that you will learn to trust Him with your life.

Have a blessed weekend!

Count down to Father’s Day

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good afternoon!  I pray that you have a wonderful and cool weekend!

TFTD: Count down to Father’s Day

Father’s day is only 9 days away.  Spend the next week and a half really thinking about what your father means to you.  Maybe your father is no longer living, take time to consider the wonderful men that God has placed in your life.  No matter who the male figure is, take time to do something special for them.

Let’s not forget the awesome father’s in this world.  Maybe your father was never around and maybe you don’t look up to anyone as a father figure, but I want to let you know there is One Father who will never let you down.  One Father that will love you beyond you loving yourself.  One Father that loved you so much that He sent His Only Son to die for you and me.

John 14:2 (NKJV)

2 In My Father’s house are many mansions;[a] if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.[b]

This Father sent His Son so that He could go prepare a place for you.

Matthew 11:27 (NKJV)

27 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.

It’s because of the Father that we know the Son.  Thank God for the Father

John 3:16 (NKJV)

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

It’s because of the Father that we have a Savior.  We are free because of the unselfish love the Father has for all of us.

When you begin counting down to Father’s day, spend time praising and recognizing your Heavenly Father.  Thank Him your father, grandfather, uncles, husbands, brothers, pastors, community leaders, teen counselors, and so much more.  God has birthed some men to be awesome fathers and we owe it to Him to recognize them daily.

What will you do this Father’s day?

Have a blessed weekend!

Learn to let go

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good afternoon!  Happy Thursday or “Friday-eve”.  Please stay cool and stay inside, it’s extremely hot.

TFTD: Learn to let go

Ephesians 4:31-32

New International Reader’s Version (NIRV)

31 Get rid of all hard feelings, anger and rage. Stop all fighting and lying. Put away every form of hatred. 32 Be kind and tender to one another. Forgive each other, just as God forgave you because of what Christ has done.

One of the problems I experience as a believer is learning to let go.  Learning to let go of all the betrayal, lies, hurt, frustration, and disappointment that people have inflicted me with and even things I have done to myself.  Letting go of the past is not easy.  You always have someone reminding you of who you use to be and what you use to do.  You always have events, places, or things that remind you of some past tragedy or set back.  It becomes difficult and sometimes overwhelming when you think about letting go.

Letting go of your past is vital to reaching towards your future.  How can you move forward if you are always looking back at your past failures or hurts?  How can you receive the blessings God has for you in the now if you are gripping the hurt from the past with both hands?  How can you fly high to the possibilities of a better future if you are being weighed down by your worries of the past?  The only way you can move forward is by first letting go.

Let go of all the hard feelings that you have towards the person(s) that hurt you.  Sometimes you can hold on to hard feelings so long that they begin controlling you.  Let go.    Let go of the anger and rage that you have inside.  You are so angry that you have created roots of bitterness and are unaware of how all that baggage is affecting all of the relationships you have with other people.  Let go.  Stop all the fighting and lying.  You are fighting so much you don’t allow people to love you.  Let go.  You are lying so much that you are hurting others because you are afraid to tell the truth.  Let go.

Let go by replacing all that anger with acts of kindness.  Pray for God to release the anger that is inside of your heart.  Admit that you are holding on to baggage then let it go.  Forgive the people from your past and stop keeping record of the wrong that people have done to you.  God doesn’t keep records of your wrongs.  Stop holding on to things from 10, 15, and 20 years ago.  I wonder how people can even stand up in the morning when they have so much baggage weighing them down.  LET GO!

You can’t change what people have done to you in the past, what they are doing to you today, or what they may do to you tomorrow, but you can change YOU.  When you hold on to all of the negative things in the world you affect your health, your spirit, your emotions, your relationships and so much more.  LET GO and watch God give you a renewed spirit.  ***Please note that letting go is hard, but it’s so necessary to your well-being and the well-being of others.  Don’t let the past keep you from experiencing the joy and peace of the Lord.***

What do you need to let go of today?

Have  a blessed day, letting go of all the pain.

If you are called…

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good afternoon.

TFTD: If you are called…

2 Timothy 1:8-9 (NKJV)

8 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, 9 who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began,

Romans 8:28 (NKJV)

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

I love the Word of God because everything you need about life is right within this book.  It will convict you if you are doing wrong, it will encourage you if you are feeling down, it will motivate you if you need to be recharged, it will lead you to repent if you have sinned, it will build you up after the world has beat on you and so much more.

The bible says that God has called us with a holy calling.  He didn’t call us according to what we can do.  He called us according to His own purpose and grace.  I bless God for the call to do His will.

Some of us run into the challenge of calling ourselves into positions or places that God has not called us into.  The bible says, “we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.  If you are truly called then you should have the assurance that all things will work together for God.  If you are truly called you know that your call is according to His purpose and not your purpose.  If you are truly called then you will submit to the holy call placed on your life and not the selfish motives of the world.

If you are called you will find hope, peace, love, and joy in the Promises of God.  Ask yourself are you called.  Not only do we call ourselves to positions that we are not supposed to be in, sometimes we block ourselves from our call.  If you are called, you won’t be able to sit back and do nothing.  If you are called, you will have a burning desire to operate in your passion.  Stop settling for the job you are on when God has placed a higher call on your life in another career field.  Stop sitting on the pew when God has placed a call on your life to sing His praises.  Stop putting a higher education off because of your financial situation when you know God called you to receive a doctorate.  If you are called, all things will work together for good.

ARE YOU CALLED?

Have a blessed day!

Poetry Corner- Guard your tongue

Poetry Corner

Good Morning!  Here I am.  I know you missed me.  I was pretty busy yesterday.  So today, you will be blessed with two blogs because this one was supposed to be posted yesterday.  Happy Tuesday to you all! I pray that you had a blessed weekend and have a wonderful week.

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Guard your tongue

By: Nicole Ellis

Just because God gave you a mouth

It doesn’t mean you should let everything come out

Your words can paint pictures of beauty

And heal the wounds of a broken heart

Your words can even tear down a person’s soul

You can cause them to fall before they even start

Start to pick up the pieces of where their lives began to fail

Your hateful words can encourage someone to heaven or condemn them to hell

Guard your tongue and make sure you speak with grace

The words you speak can change a human race

That little piece of your body can bring life or take it away

Guard your tongue and be more mindful of the things that you say

Just because God gave you a mind

Doesn’t mean you should speak what you are thinking all of the time

Be sensitive to the hearts of the people

Your words can build people up or make them feeble

Guard your tongue and speak with grace

Be the reason that someone has a smile on their face

Don’t tear people down just because you can

Demonstrate Christ’s love to others and speak peace across the land

Guard your tongue and speak hope to everyone you meet

Encourage someone with words to conquer any feat

Guard your tongue because someone is depending on you

To demonstrate how other Christians are to do

Speak life

Bind death

Trust in Christ to do the rest

Guard your tongue this tiny yet powerful tool

Speak blessings and not curses, live wise and not like a fool.

The tongue is so powerful and we have to be careful about what we say.  The words we speak today can kill someone’s dream or bring new life to their hopes.  Think before you speak and even before you speak think again.  It’s not always worth saying how you feel.  Pray to God to give you wisdom on when to speak and when to remain silent.  Some battles you will never have to utter a word.  Then there are others, where God will grant you such grace over your tongue that you will be able to speak blessings even over your enemies.

Have a blessed day guarding your tongue!

Just because they treat you like…doesn’t mean you have to…

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good afternoon.  I pray that God blesses each and every person reading this blog in a special way.

TFTD: Just because they treat you like…doesn’t mean you have to…

Matthew 7:12 (NKJV)

12 Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Matthew 22:39

New King James Version (NKJV)

39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

Just because they treat you like dirt, doesn’t mean you have to treat them the same.  Just because they curse you out, doesn’t mean you have to curse them out.  Just because they lie to you, steal from you, beat on you, talk about you, and more doesn’t mean you have to return evil for evil.  As Christians we are to treat others the way we want to be treated.  We are to love our neighbors as ourselves.

I know it is hard to be nice to those who constantly mistreat you, use you, and even abuse you, but as believers of Christ we are to represent His bright light.  We are to extend love to the people who are hateful to us.  We are to pray for those who spitefully use us.

It’s easy to be around people we love and like, but the true testimony comes when we can love beyond how people treat us.  The more time you spend in God’s presence the more you will begin taking on His characteristics.  People spit on Jesus, cursed Him, beat Him, lied on Him, denied Him, persecuted Him, and more.  Yet, Christ still forgave them and loved them.

Someone may be treating you badly because they are jealous of the “God that is inside of you”.  Witness to them, by showing them that you don’t have to stoop down to their level.  Show them that you are changed and that God loves them.  Demonstrate Christ love to those who mistreat you.

Remember just because they treat you badly, doesn’t mean you have to return it back to them.  Bless them with kindness and one day their heart will change.

Have a blessed day.  Step out on faith and share a kind word with the people who have mistreated you.  Yeah, they may talk about you more, roll their eyes at you, or call you names, but you keep on extending the love of Christ.

Your life is a testimony and God is with you!
