Enjoy the life God gave you…

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good afternoon!  Happy Friday to you all!  I pray that this week has been a blessing to you all.  I pray that if you needed rest, that you received it.  I pray that healing has begun in any area of your life that may have been afflicted with sickness.  I pray that you make a conscious decision to put God first in all that you do.

TFTD: Enjoy the life God gave you

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (New International Version)

18give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Sometimes we spend too much time complaining about our life that we don’t take time to enjoy this life.  We can complain without even thinking about it, but it takes a concentrated effort to think and speak positive things.  Instead of complaining about what you don’t have, give God thanks for the things that you do have.  Instead of talking about the things you wish you could do, enjoy what you do have and make the best of it.

This life

by: Nicole Ellis

This life that I have the world didn’t give it to me

And if I’m honest, I didn’t give it to myself either

So how dare I walk around with my head hung low

My heart filled with pain

My mind stressed to the tenth degree

Last time I checked my soul has been set free

This life that I have is short and precious

Covered by the blood of Jesus

Saturated  by His grace and mercy

I need to stop complaining and enjoy the bounty

The bounty of blessings that God set aside for me

It’s time to enjoy this life that I’m living

And begin living as if I’m blessed indeed.

Have a blessed day and wonderful weekend.  Enjoy the life God gave you.  Stop looking at other people wishing that you had what they did, or wishing that you could do what they can.  Enjoy all that God has given you and look forward to what He has in store for you.

God bless.

Walk by Faith

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good afternoon.  Happy Thursday to you all!

TFTD: Walk by faith

Hebrews 11:1-3 (New King James Version)

1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

When you walk by faith you have to trust in the outcome of a future event that has not come to pass.  It’s by your faith that you can begin hoping for anything in life.  When I was little I hoped that I would grow up to go to school and become a doctor or a lawyer.  I hoped that one day I would grow up and get married and have some kids.  I had faith on these things coming to pass without even seeing the evidence of these things.  Now I graduated from college, I have a good job, (I’m not a doctor or a lawyer), and I’m married with kids. Although as I grew older some of the things I hoped for changed, I still knew that the things I wanted most would come to pass.  I walked by faith.

That is how the older generations lived when it came to trusting Jesus.  They hoped for a better future than the one they had, they put their trust in the unchanging word of God and walked by faith and their lives are a testimony to all of the generations that came after them.  Many endured racism at a level that we could not comprehend.  Others endured the long hard wars that helped shape America into the place it is today.  Many suffered through the Great Depression and the list goes on.  We could not even begin to fathom what our ancestors had to endure, but they made it because they walked by faith.

No matter what you aspire to do in life you must walk by faith.  If you made decisions on doing something in this life based on what you can see then you would never amount to anything.  Look at all the successful people around you, do you think they could physically see where they are today or did they have to trust in God?  You have to trust in the things not seen in order to have them manifest in the physical.  You have to trust in God.  None of us were here when the world was created, but we have to trust and believe that God created it.  God took the things that we see today, like the sun, moon, stars, oceans, mountains, land, animals and more and created them out of things that we could not see.  I don’t know about you, but that is a blessing.  Some people will look at you later in life and see the end result and see this ambitious successful person and you can look at them and say I once was nothing but by faith God made me something.

Walk by faith.

Have a blessed day.

The blessings of a righteous man…

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning!  I pray that everyone is having a productive week.

TFTD: The blessings of a righteous man

Psalm 112 (New International Version)

1Praise the LORD. Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who finds great delight in his commands.2 His children will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.
3 Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.  4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for the gracious and compassionate and righteous man. 5 Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice. 6 Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever. 7 He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.  8 His heart is secure, he will have no fear; in the end he will look in triumph on his foes. 9 He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor, his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be lifted high in honor. 10 The wicked man will see and be vexed, he will gnash his teeth and waste away; the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.

The blessings of a righteous man or woman speak volumes even to their enemies.  You are blessed when you fear the Lord and find delight in His commands.  God’s commands will lead you in the right path.  They may not be what you want to hear, but they are what you need to hear in order to walk in His will and way.  How many people delight in the commands of the Lord?  If you had a choice to be a righteous person or a wicked person, which one would you choose?  I know you are looking at this saying, “Nicole I want to be a righteous person.”  We’ll I would dare to say that many people would like to be righteous, but they are living like a wicked person.

You are only righteous through God.  When you fear Him and follow His commands you are righteous in God’s sight.  The blessings of a righteous person will extend to their children’s children.  Even though there will be some tough days, the righteous man will still prevail through the darkness.  A righteous person will be generous in their giving and will guide all of their affairs with discretion.  When people and things rise up to stand against the righteous they will not be shaken.  Why?  The righteous rely on the Lord and find strength in Him.  The righteous will have victory over their enemies.  To all the people who seek to destroy the righteous, they will sit back perplexed at how you made it through.  They will waste away and everything they do will amount to nothing.  The righteous give to the poor and people will forever speak of a righteous person.

These are the blessings of God to a righteous man/woman.  This is not my personal opinion; this is the word and promises of God.  It is beneficial to everyone who knows Christ to fear Him and follow His ways.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to ignore the commands of God.  There are no blessings in being wicked.  We have to stop saying that we love the Lord but turn around and live like the devil.  We have to stop saying that we love our brothers and sisters and then turn around and stab them in the back.  We have to stop saying that we are Christians, but our life tells the world otherwise.  I want to caution those straddling the fence if you are not striving to live a righteous life then you will be on the side where things will waste away from you, you will struggle and won’t seem to find relief, you will be someone’s footstool.

Blessed is the man who fears the LORD and finds delight in His commands…. Are you this person?

Have a blessed day!

The children are our future

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning!  Happy Tuesday to you all

TFTD: The children are our future

Matthew 19:13-14 (New International Version)

13Then little children were brought to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them.  14Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

A song writer wrote, “I believe the children are our future…”  That simple phrase is so true, the children are our future and it’s up to us to teach them the way.  Being a parent has to be one of the toughest jobs on earth.  Here you have a little life that is dependent solely on you.  Their chance of survival is contingent on your feeding them, clothing them, taking them to the doctor, nurturing them, teaching them, protecting them, and the list goes on.  Being a role model is tough as well.  This is a position in life that you did not choose, rather a child decided to elect you to be their role model based on how you look, the way you talk, how you do things, and even the type of activities that you participate in.

As parents and as role models we try to guide our children and the children of others in the right direction.  We try to keep them out of harm’s way.  Some parents allow their kids to do anything, say anything, and go any place, but when it comes to going to the house of the Lord they get all bent out of shape.  If your child needs to be allowed anywhere it should be a good bible teaching church.  Notice I said bible teaching church, that’s another TFTD for another day.

Then you have situations where the parents are not as involved and children are pressing their way to church alone.  They may not know the rules or etiquette to sitting in church.  They may not own a dress or a suit.  They may not have anyone to teach them about personal hygiene.  And how dare people run to rebuke the children or even whoever brings the children to the house of the Lord.  Jesus loves the little children.  Don’t hinder them from receiving what God has for them.  Everything in heaven is available to them.

You may be the role model or parental influence that they need.  Let’s not block a child’s blessing just because they don’t look or act like our children or the children that we are used to dealing with in church.  Some kids need more guidance than others.  Our children are our future and if we are going to give them a chance at a blessed future we need to introduce them to the Lord and saturate them with His love.

Do you hinder our children or look for ways to help them?

Accountable

Sunshine’s Word of the Day

I want to say good morning to my “blog” family.  I pray that you had a spectacular weekend.  I want to encourage you all to take time each day and marvel at the splendor of God.  I know it has been a super hot weekend for many people, but even in the midst of the heat there are still blessings from God.  Make sure you take time to recognize them.

1 John 4:21 (New King James Version)

21 And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.

Galatians 6:1-2 (New International Version)

1Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. 2Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Today’s word is accountable

To be accountable means to be responsible to someone or for something.  As Christians we are accountable to God and accountable for our brothers and sisters in Christ, and ourselves.

Have you ever tried to reach a goal without being held accountable?  I have and it was not successful.  When it comes to things like losing weight, studying for a test, writing a paper, planning an event, and so forth, if I did not map out a schedule in which I would be accountable for and have a person to check up on me with the schedule then I would not be productive.

The same is true for our spiritual walk, we cannot strive to be a better Christian if we are not held accountable.  I don’t know about you, but I’m not that strong yet.  I have not arrived.  There are times when I need to call one of my sisters for a little push.  We all need to be held accountable.  If you truly love God then you will love your brothers and sisters too and through that love you will seek to hold one another accountable.

If you see your sister struggling with a no good man, reach out to her and hold her accountable to the things of God.  She has said that she wants to grow closer to God, show her the way.  If you see your brother struggling with alcohol, reach out to him and hold him accountable to stay out of the bars.  We can conquer sin with a strong support system.  Accountability is key.  You do not have to run this race alone.

Food for thought:  Many people do not like to be held accountable because it will expose their shortcomings and push them to change.  Is your pride more important than changing for Christ?

Examine your life and find ways in which you can be held accountable: Weight loss, saving money, reaching a goal, starting a business, working on a project, etc.

Have a blessed day.

Who is HE to you?

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning!  Happy Friday!  I pray that everyone has a blessed and safe weekend.  Stay cool this weekend, it’s suppose to be really hot.

TFTD:  Who is He to you?

Matthew 16:13-16 (New King James Version)

13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

How often in your day do you encounter someone who does not believe in Jesus Christ?  There are atheists, people who reject the belief in the existence of deities.  There are agnostic people who have knowledge about a religion and try to find arguments in order to compare the differences and similarities of a religion.  They have knowledge, but no relationship.  Then you have believers-those who profess that Jesus is the Son of the living God.

I would like to step out there and say within the culture of believers you have people who have accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior, but won’t profess that Jesus is who He is to others.  Being a Christian may not be popular in your line of business so in your private time you rave about the Lord, but when you are at work people would have no idea who you worship.  People come up to you all the time and share their struggles and difficult times seeking some type of answer, but you refrain from sharing who helps you in your time of trouble.  We should live a life in such a way that people can see the Christ in us.  We should not be ashamed or scared to share who Jesus is to us.  When a door or a window is opened or even cracked that is an opportunity to profess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God.

We entertain conversations where people tell us what they believe in and what they do not believe in.  We should be even bolder to share who we believe in because we can look back over our life and see how He brought us through.  If someone asked you who do you believe in, what would you say?  If someone asked you if you were a Christian what would you say?  Look for opportunities to stand boldly on who Jesus is.  God always gives us openings to step out and confess who He is.  The question is do we avoid those openings or do we dive into those openings?

Food for thought: Who is Jesus to you?  Who do you say that He is?  Are you ashamed to tell the world about Him?  Do you resemble an agnostic person rather than a believer?  Will you stand boldly like Peter did and say, I say YOU ARE THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD!

Have a blessed weekend in Jesus name!

I have chosen the way of truth

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning!  Happy Thursday to you all.

TFTD: I have chosen the way of truth

Psalm 119:25-32 (New King James Version)

25 My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word.
26 I have declared my ways, and You answered me; Teach me Your statutes.
27 Make me understand the way of Your precepts, So shall I meditate on Your wonderful works.
28 My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word.
29 Remove from me the way of lying, And grant me Your law graciously.
30 I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me.
31 I cling to Your testimonies; O LORD, do not put me to shame!
32 I will run the course of Your commandments, For You shall enlarge my heart.

Many times we go to everybody seeking answers for our problems.  Sometimes we are so desperate for an answer that we would even pour out our deepest secrets to a stranger in hopes of them having the answer.  I want to encourage someone to choose the right One.

When you make up in your mind that you will seek the Lord and His ways, life (though it will still have some rough days) seems easier to maneuver through.  Every answer that you need is in the Bible.  Whatever issue you are facing choose to go to God FIRST, then God will lead you to the people who will be able to help you, encourage you, minister to you, pray for you, sew a seed into you, fast with you, etc.

When was the last time you asked the Lord to teach you His ways?  Instead of always asking God for something monetary or physical, when was the last time you asked Him to help you understand His commandments so that you could follow them?  How important is it to you to grow spiritually?  When you are weak, do you ask God to strengthen you with His word?  There is power in the word of God and sometimes as believers we get caught up in “lip service” and then when we are hit with a trial we tend to waver a little in our faith.  Your strength comes from the Lord.  Understanding comes from the Lord.  A good example to follow comes from the Lord.  Stop running to everyone and choose the LORD.

When you choose the right ONE, you will choose the way of truth.  The Lord is incapable of lying; don’t you want to follow someone who would never lie to you?  It’s times to choose the right One.  Run to the Lord, chase after His word and wisdom, dive into His arms, and give Him all of you.

I have chosen the way of truth…What will your choice be?

Jesus is “I AM”

Sunshine’s Reflections

Happy Wednesday!

TFTD: JESUS is “I AM”

Exodus 3:14 (New King James Version)

14 And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”

It’s easy to praise the Lord when things are going well.  It’s easy to walk around with a smile on your face when your life is not being challenged.  The real test comes when it seems like everything around you is falling apart and everyone around you has lost their minds.

We say with our mouth that we believe in God and that He will provide, but the moment we begin struggling we act as if He doesn’t exist.  We try to figure things out and in turn become stressed out.  Did you forget that Jesus is “I AM WHO I AM”?   Jesus Christ is so many things that He says that “I AM”.

  • I am a healer
  • I am a comforter
  • I am a way maker
  • I am a fortress
  • I am your refuge
  • I am your bridge over troubled water
  • I am the way, the truth, and the light
  • I am alpha and omega, the beginning and the end
  • I am the son of God
  • I am the living water
  • I am the bread of life
  • I am the way to everlasting life
  • I am Holy
  • I am your provider
  • I am that I am…I shall be all that you need

What are other things that Jesus is?  List some more things that Jesus is in your life and the lives of others.   HE IS THE GREAT I AM!  When life tries to trip you up call on the great I AM.  Remind yourself of who HE is.  Remind yourself of who you are in Christ.  Because of Him you can say, that I am:

  • a child of God (John 1:12)
  • a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • a citizen of heaven (Philippians 3:20)
  • hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3)
  • chosen of God, holy and dearly loved (Colossians 3:12)

Learn to praise Jesus through all of your circumstances because He is all that you will ever need.  I know when it rains it pours, but instead of focusing on the rain be thankful that God gave you an umbrella.

I am so glad that Jesus is the great I AM!  Have a blessed day meditating on all that He is to you.

Walk in the Light

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning!  Happy Tuesday to you all!

TFTD: Walk in the Light

1 John 1 (New International Version)

1That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life. 2The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4We write this to make our[a] joy complete.

Walking in the light

5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[b] sin.  8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

There is no darkness in the things or the way of God; absolutely no darkness.  We cannot say that we fellowship with God and yet walk in darkness.  The two cannot exist together.  If we say that we walk with God and walk in darkness (for example: continually sinning, not showing love to one another, conspiring against one another, hurting others, lying on each other, etc) then we are a liar and we do not live by the truth of the Word of God.  Yes, the bible says we are a liar, not me, but the WORD OF GOD!  You can’t please God if you are walking in darkness.

When we walk as Christ walks then we can have sweet fellowship with all people.  Only the blood of Jesus purifies us all from sin.  The blood cleanses our walk.  Never say that you are totally without sin because if you do, you will deceive yourself and the truth is not in you.  Acknowledge your sin and God is faithful to forgive you and cleanse you from ALL not some but ALL unrighteousness.

Walk in the light.  Check how you are walking?  Are you walking in darkness-always talking about people, lying, stealing, fornicating, committing adultery, gossiping, backbiting, coveting, cursing, walking pass people and not speaking, not forgiving or are you walking in the light-extending love, forgiving all people, encouraging others, praying with and for people, offering correction: open rebuke that demonstrates the love of Christ, and affirming one another?

What does your walk say about you?  Who are you following when you walk?  I chose to follow Christ and reflect His light.  What about you?

Have a blessed day walking in the light!

Leaning on the everlasting arms

Sunshine’s Reflections

Good morning.  Happy Monday to you all!  I pray that you had a blessed weekend and a wonderful day.

TFTD: Leaning on the everlasting arms

Deuteronomy 33:27 (New International Version)

27 The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.
He will drive out your enemy before you, saying, ‘Destroy him!’

As long as we live this life, we will face disappointments, heartache, challenges, trials and tribulations.  It is in God’s word that our days are numbered and they are full of trouble (Job 14:1).  Now some may read this and feel sad, but I want to encourage you to see the blessing in this.

Knowledge is power.  And since you know that your days on this earth are few and full of trouble you should make the best out of every situation.  Find the blessing.  When life throws you a curve ball, lean on the everlasting arms of the Lord.  When your finances are few, lean on the everlasting arms of the Lord.  When people talk about you, misuse you, misjudge you, criticize, and lie on you, lean on the everlasting arm.  Instead of looking at life’s challenges as hopeless, look at them as an opportunity to see how strong God’s arms are.

When you place your cares and your life in the arms of the Lord you should feel safe and secure.  You should fear no man and nothing while resting in the arms of the Lord.  When everything around you begins to fall apart and nothing seems to make sense LEAN ON THE EVERLASTING ARMS of the LORD.

Food for thought:  Stop leaning on people because they are undependable and limited in their ability to respond to your problems.  Lean on the everlasting arms of the Lord-there is no limit to the amount of trouble He can hold and He can and will hold you.

If you do not have a personal relationship with God, I dare you to try Him.  If you feel lost or confused, I double dare you to try Christ.  He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Have a blessed day.  I’m leaning on the everlasting arms of the Lord!
